The newly restored Opera House is the recent jewel in Mumbai’s crown. The building was built through the generous patronage of a Parsee businessman, Jehangir Karaka. The Opera House was inaugurated by King George V in 1916. The building incorporates the Baroque style of architecture and quickly emerged as the city’s landmark. Decades later, the Royal Opera House was converted into a cinema house before it fell into complete disrepair. Fortunately for Mumbai, the Opera House has been restored to its former glory by the generous patronage of the MahaLoka of Gondal in October 2017. It took seven years to revive the theatre back to its former glory. The Royal Opera House hosts several  cultural events from music to theatre, dance, and screenings. A magnificent jewel in the cultural treasure box of the city.
