Diagonally opposite Crawford Market, stands the Bombay Police Commissioner’s Office complex, to which entry is restricted. The building was designed by John Adams, architectural engineer to the Bombay Government and was completed in 1896—97 on a 20,000 square yard plot of ground. Construction was supervised by executive engineer, S Bebsch. While the ground and first floors served as offices, the second floor housed the offices of the Superintendent of Police, Inspectors and Constables. The topmost floor housed the rooms for the servants and cooks. The structures to the west of the main building originally had 120 rooms, while those to the south housed the stables for horses of the mounted force.
