Originally named Victoria Gardens for Queen Victoria, it was popularly known as ‘Rani Baag’ (Queen’s Gardens).  Laid out in 1861, it is a zoo and a garden, with the zoo being one of the oldest in India. It is located in Byculla, in the heart of Bombay. It is now called Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Udyan after Jijabai, mother of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.  The huge Renaissance Clock Tower, situated bang at its entrance and the Bhaudaji Lad Museum (formally Victoria Albert Museum) are added attractions.
